One must only watch the news to verify that prejudice and stereotyping continue to create an increasing global epidemic of intolerance. 

In our schools, bullying and teasing occasionally erupt into very visible forms of violence.  We hear about school fights.  The news tells us when a weapon is brought to school, sometimes with disastrous consequences.  Less visible, but equally costly, racism, prejudice, and discrimination negatively impact our children’s academic achievement, self-respect, and personal growth.

What We Do  

The Anti-Prejudice Consortium (APC) provide programs that work to fight prejudice, increase tolerance, and promote respect among all people.  Our purpose is to be a partner with middle schools and their surrounding community to address prejudice, discrimination and intolerance.  We respond to our students’ needs by providing programs that help them understand and appreciate differences.  We teach our POP ambassadors tools to understand and embrace differences in effort to eliminate bullying in schools. 

More than 5,000 students and 400 counselors from public, private and religious schools throughout metro Atlanta have participated in the POP Summit since its inception.  In addition, we have nearly 300 volunteers from the business, government and non-profit sectors of the community.

Our Programs    

Power Over Prejudice (POP) Summit is a one-day workshop on prejudice and discrimination to learn about cultural, racial, ethnic, socio-economic and physical differences.  In-School Follow-up (ISF) Program is a student-led program that circulates the lessons of cultural understanding, appreciation of diversity, tolerance, and non-violence to entire student bodies.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 

Providing Solutions    

We realize that students often do not have the means or the vocabulary to address issues of intolerance in their schools.  This is why we annually conduct the POP Summit and ISF Programs to help Atlanta-area middle school students learn how to recognize their own biases and overcome prejudice in their schools.  We also collaborate with middle schools throughout metro-Atlanta, offering students and administrators alike an opportunity to enhance character education.
