Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What volunteer opportunities are there in APC?

A. There are four types of volunteers who work with APC:

Summit Facilitator. These facilitators work with the student groups at the Fall Summit, directly experiential learning and discussion. They receive training before the Summit.

Summit Volunteer. These volunteers work of the days of the Summit to help set up rooms, insure students move from location to location, assist Facilitators as needed.

ISF Partner. In-School Follow-up (ISF) Partners work throughout the year with one or more schools to help counselors and other school staff in planning, preparing for and implementing ISF programs.

General Volunteer. These volunteers may be called on from time to time to assist in media relations, program assessment or any variety of other activities.

Q. What sort of time commitment is required of volunteers?

A. Depending on the type of volunteer you are, your time commitment might be limited to a single day or run an entire school year.

Summit Facilitator. Facilitators receive a four-hour training prior to the Summit and are expected to attend one daylong Summit. Facilitators may choose to work more than one day at the Summit.

Summit Volunteer. Volunteers need no training and only work the day of the Summit. They do not have to sign up for all three days, but may if they wish.

ISF Partner. We expect our ISF Partners to be available to schools on an as-needed basis throughout the school year. Some schools are very self-actuating and require minimal involvement. Others need to be encouraged by more frequent contact with the ISF Partner.

General Volunteer. Most general volunteers are called upon for specific projects, the duration of which is determined by the project. We usually have more activity during the school year and just prior to the Summit.

Q. Are there other organizations involved?

A. As with any comprehensive program, we cannot do this by ourselves. We count on the support of a number of organizations including:

Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health

Georgia Holocaust Commission

Georgia Institute of Technology

Islamic Speakers' Bureau of Atlanta

Jewish Women International

The Junior League of Atlanta
